SHPN1/SPS1 TESTING
Siberian Husky Polyneuropathy 1 (SHPN1) and Shaking Puppy Syndrome 1 (SPS1) are two newly (2012) identified neurologic diseases of Siberian Huskies. Both are debilitating nervous system diseases that impact an affected dog’s ability to walk. SHPN1 is a progressive disease that can severely change an affected dog’s quality of life and longevity while SPS1 causes mobility issues very early on and ultimately sudden death by the time the affected dog is 2 years of age. Swabs for cheek swabs as well as collecting samples will be provided free of charge. Test results can be submitted to the Orthopedic Foundation of America (OFA) (please note there is a separate submission fee to OFA) and will be listed on a dog’s health screening information page.
The University of Minnesota’s Canine Genetic Lab has graciously extended a 15% discount on their regular testing fees.

In order to ensure that there is proper time and equipment, please email Sheila Blanker at StarNewf@aol.com with SHCA National SPS and SHPN in the subject line along with the number of dogs that you would like tested.
