Health And Genetic Testing of the Stud Dog and Brood Bitch

Eyes - ACVO (or equivalent) Eye Exam Examination once at least 12 months of age, then yearly or at a minimum within a year prior to any and all breedings.
Hips - Both hips certified clear of hip dysplasia – in accordance with the testing requirements and as defined by the pertaining recording registry – of radiological evidence of hip dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), PennHip, or other equivalent recognized registry.
SPS1/SHPN1 - Stud Dogs and Brood bitches should be genetically tested using the University of Minnesota test and results reported to OFA. Eliminating carrier dogs from breeding programs is NOT recommend as this will negatively impact the long-term genetic diversity of the breed. CARRIER dogs can be bred to CLEAR dogs. CARRIER dogs should not be bred to CARRIERS, as this has the potential to produce AFFECTED dogs.
