Lombard-Norris Sled Dog Team Awards

Dr. Roland Lombard, DVM, and Earl Norris were awarded Honorary Membership by SHCA for service to the Siberian Husky. "Doc" was an incredible sprint musher and mentor. Earl was a role model for the Siberian distance musher although he was a sprint musher for most of his life. It is appropriate that these awards given for the best all Siberian team in both sprint and distance racing and should bear their names.

Rules and Eligibility:

Applicant must be a member in good standing of the SHCA for the entire period for which the member is applying as well as filling the application.
An applicant's team must consist entirely of purebred Siberian Huskies, owned or co-owned by the applicant.
The individual dogs on the team must be registered with the American Kennel Club or its national equivalent, such as the Canadian Kennel Club.
ILP registered dogs are not eligible.
A racing event is one or more day competition, on snow with sleds, held in the United States or Canada, and held by a recognized race giving organization.
Applications for the distance division will contain only races meeting the definition of a distance race stated in the Sled Dog Degree Program.
Applications for a sprint division award will enter only races meeting the definition of a sprint race in the Sled Dog Degree Program.
The team must have a minimum of 3 dogs competing on the first race day.
One award may be given without the requirements for the other division being met.
There must be a minimum of 3 applicants each for the sprint division or a minimum of 500 points for the award to be presented.
There must be a minimum of 3 applicants for the distance division or a minimum of 500 points for the award to be presented
Applicant must be the driver of the team

Purse is used for only the class entered--not the total purse available at a particular race. If the race is in Canada, then the purse may be calculated in Canadian dollars.

Each application for the Lombard - Norris Award requires:

Completed Lombard Norris Application Form
Copy of AKC or other equivalent registration papers for each dog
Certified Race Results for the applicant team signed by Race Marshall, Chief Judge, or Timer
Published race results which include date, location, distance, finishing place, number of teams entered, and purse

Application must be postmarked no later than June 1 for the year in which the award applied for

The awards shall consist of trophies in each division consistent with obedience plaques.

The greatest number of points in each division will determine the top team for each division. Points will be determined by the following formula for each:

Distance Division
[Purse/25 + length of trail + Number drivers on 1st day + (number of dogs in team x 10) + 20 if ISDRA-sanctioned)] x [number of finishing teams your finishing position + 1.0)/number of finishing teams)]

Examples
A 6-dog team entered with 30 starters in a 60 mile race with a $1000 Purse in which you place 20th of 25 finishers yields 45.6 points. The race is not ISDRA-sanctioned.

[(1000 / 25) + 60 + 30 + (6 x 10)] x [(25 - 20 + 1) / 25)]

A 16 dog team entered in an 1100 mile race with 60 starters and a $50,000. Purse. Your team places 30th of 50 completing and get 1394 points

[(50,000 / 25) + 1100 + 60 + (16 x 10)] x [(50 - 30) + 1 /50)]

Sprint Division: Unlimited
[Purse/50) + length of trail + number drivers on 1st day + (number of dogs in team x 10) + 20 if ISDRA-sanctioned)] x [(number of finishing teams your finishing position + (1.0)/number of finishing teams)] = points for race

Sprint Division: Limited
[Purse/25) + length of trail + number of drivers on 1st day + (number of dogs in team x 10) + 20 if ISDRA-sanctioned)] x [(number of finishing teams your finishing position + (1.0)/number of finishing teams] = number of points
